FREE ‘Beetle Bottoms’ Kids Activities & Storytelling

The Beetle Bottoms have arrived at Wild Island, and we’re excited to be hosting FREE activities all day to introduce them to the young, and the young at heart.

Beetle Bottoms are tiny people who live in gardens all over the world. But, only a few people have ever noticed them because they are no bigger than an apple pip!

When you are that little, life is very exciting, and often dangerous. You can dive into a raindrop, slide down a poppy stalk, and ride on the backs of insects.

You will have the chance to meet Pip and Hummer, and learn about some of the amazing adventures that they go on. Join us for reading, story telling, colouring and creating.

Beetle Bottoms and the Eyes in the Night

After a swarm of bees lands in her tree, Pip wakes to discover a pair of eyes outside her window. She is surprised to find the eyes belong to a boy called Hummer. It is the first time either of them have seen a different coloured Beetle Bottom, and although shocked at first by their different appearances, they like each other instantly.

This book celebrates the acceptance of people, races, and cultures, and the beauty of seeing the world through a child’s eyes.

Beetle Bottoms and the Sticky Situation

Little Pip is fed up with being left at home while the others get to fly their birds, so she decides to join them. Unfortunately, Pip finds herself in a very sticky situation. She comes across Fang the bad-tempered spider, and has a close encounter with a tunnelling worm.

Find out whether she manages to keep safe, and what adventures she has.

Autumn Music – In celebration of Fagus

Please join us for the first in our series of Wild Island music events.

Autumn Music will celebrate Tasmania’s only deciduous tree, Nothofagus Gunnii. Although much of the palette of our native flora remains unchanged during the colder months, this small tree brings spectacular colour to the highlands in autumn.

This event has been created to provide an opportunity for young and emerging musicians to perform in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The program for the evening is varied and will include solo cello, some classical vocal, contemporary pop, French cabaret, Swedish indie-folk and even a touch of country!

Child $10
Adult $20

Refreshments available during interval
