Tarkine in Motion
Presented by the Bob Brown Foundation and supported by Wild Island Tasmania.

Over a 3-day period each April, 120 artists explore takayna / Tarkine, immersing themselves in the wilderness to create unique works of art – paintings, photographs, films, song, drawings and more – to share with the world.

The selection of pieces here are but a small slice of the creative works borne from last April’s trip, and each artist generously donates a portion from the sale of their work back to The Bob Brown Foundation to support this campaign.

Collectively, their works celebrate the diversity and unique beauty of one of Tasmania’s last truly WILD places.

A Wild Vision

We opened Wild Island in October 2014 with an exhibition of the iconic images of Peter Dombrovskis.

Peter Dombrovskis was foundational in Australian landscape photography. Peter gave us a superbly crafted view of wild places that was evocative yet intricately detailed. His work and its role in campaigns for Tasmania’s western wilderness set an international benchmark. He helped change the course of history and the lives of many people.

It is fitting that the opening exhibition of the new Wild Island centre, at the location of the Wilderness Society shop at Salamanca in Hobart, should showcase Peter’s work as its opening exhibition. The Wild Island gallery and interpretive space will offer uplifting imagery and insights into wild places, along with an array of locally sourced and ethical products.
