Eco-Dye workshop with Linda Chee aka Geckostrands
November 24, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$120
Linda Chee is a specialist Eucalyptus eco-dyer who works with protein-based fibres such as wool, silk, cashmere and alpaca. In this workshop, running over 2 days, you will do hands-on dyeing at Linda’s studio in Franklin and then unwrap your creations the next day in at Wild Island Gallery.
FRIDAY 10-4pm: At Franklin, you will learn the fundamentals of dyeing with Eucalyptus leaves and experiment with colour and effects using wool roving. Linda will show you how to identify the colours that particular leaves create in defined conditions and advise on the effects of mordants, pot and fibre on the end result.
You will then create your own project- either with a scarf blank available for purchase from the studio, or with fabric or an item of wool or silk clothing you have brought from home. Linda will assist with design and placement of the botanicals, and discussion and questions will be addressed.
SATURDAY 10-11am: As your item is best left in the dye overnight, the next day you will unwrap and unveil your items over a cup of tea at Wild Island. Ooh and aah over your beautiful creations.
Wild Island will be conducting a range of events, including workshops, talks and field trips. Please sign up to our mailing list to be kept informed of events as they are announced, and for the chance to win a free print!”
